Greetings from Alaska…in Nebraska: Glacier Bay Landing Review

Glacier Bay LandingIt’s no secret that Omaha is home to one of the best zoos in the world and the best part about the Henry Doorly Zoo is that it keeps getting better!

The new Glacier Bay Landing opened last weekend and I couldn’t wait to check it out!

Glacier By Landing

Glacier Bay Landing is designed to look like an Alaska coastal town and from the sweet shop, to the lighthouse playground, this new area hits the mark. The theming of this area also ties in perfectly with the Alaskan Adventure splash pad!Glacier Bay Landing

While the boys were climbing the lighthouse, I did some quick exploring and loved what I saw. The Sweet Shop and the new concession windows not only look adorable, but they also feature a variety of options perfect for the Pacific Northwest theme! There are 10 windows that all serve the same food from grilled PB&J to Alaskan Cod Sandwiches and just about anything in between. The Sweet Shop features snow cones, ice cream, edible cookie dough, and, best of all, frozen coffee!

Seating & More

Glacier BayThe north end of the zoo has been lacking in seating areas and Glacier Bay Landing makes up for that big time! It’ll be a great place to eat lunch or a snack during a day at the zoo with its seating and tables for about 650 people. A lot of the tables are situated in shaded areas which will be perfect for the dog days of summer that we’re all anxiously waiting for!

The two things that stood out the most to me were things I never would have thought about pre-kids. Glacier Bay Landing has an amazing restroom area. The women’s restroom is large and clean and there are two family restrooms as well! Glacier Bay Landing also features the Mother’s Den which is a beautiful private nursing area complete with several gliders, umbrellas, and small tables.

Quiet & Restful

As of right now, there is not an actual animal exhibit in that area, but it’s still a great place to sit and relax in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the zoo. We look forward to many lunch breaks in Glacier Bay Landing…and I cannot wait to try the shrimp tacos!

Planning a trip to the zoo soon? Check out Glacier Bay Landing!
