The summer before Kindergarten:: An Ode of Hope Before School Starts

summer before kindergartenThe summer before kindergarten…

…you will savor the moments—cherishing their littleness while marveling at how they got so big.

The summer before kinder, you will wonder how this little person who depends on you for everything will be able to make it alone at that big school.

Will they miss you? Will they be sad? Will they change?

The summer before kindergarten, you will stop wishing away the days longing for a break but you will wish for time to slow down.

The summer before kinder, you will wonder if you have taught them enough, been present enough, said no enough, said yes enough.

Was your parenting enough for this new milestone?

The summer before kindergarten, you will beam with pride. You will know that you have truly invested your life in something that matters.

The summer before kinder, you will worry that their new school will see only the worst and not really see all that is special in your child.

The summer before kindergarten, you will prepare your heart and their heart. You will grieve but you will anticipate with pride.

The summer before kinder, you will trust as you let go of that little hand that there are good people in the world full of love for them. School has lessons that they need.

The summer before kindergarten,

you will decide that the lessons you taught them will be enough. And as they learn this new normal, you will come alongside them and help mold their little lives.

You will find that the person they are and the mom you are is enough for this new adventure. Just as they are. Just as they will be.  And you, mama, are enough too.
