Hefty® EnergyBag™: Part Two of Our Recycling Journey

We are thrilled to partner with Hefty® EnergyBag™ for this sponsored post.

Just a month or so ago, my husband and I began to talk about how we wanted to “up” our recycling game, while reducing the amount of things that end up in our trash can. We are a family who has always had a decently full recycle bin at the curb weekly, and we talk to our kids about what can be put in recycling and what has to be placed in the trash. Therefore, one of our goals was to decrease how full our trash gets. Due to Hefty® EnergyBag™, we have achieved just that!

For the past few weeks, our family has been diligently using our  Hefty® EnergyBag™ orange bags. The bags became filled faster than I thought they would. In just one week, we had four full orange bags waiting to be picked up with our other recycling. I mentioned in my previous post, how many wrappers and on-the-go snacks we use as a family. However, we found so many other things to put into our bags. Did you know the orange bags can take foam? As long it is clean, these bulky, to-go containers can be resourced rather than filling up our trash cans or our landfills. Amazing

Place these items in your Hefty® EnergyBag™ orange bag:

  • Potato chip bags and other snack bags
  • Candy wrappers
  • Granola bar and energy bar wrappers
  • Plastic and foam cups, plates and bowls
  • Shredded cheese packages
  • Salad bags
  • Plastic pet food bags
  • Frozen fruit & vegetable bags
  • Pudding cups
  • Stand-up pouches
  • Squeezable baby food pouches
  • Foam to-go boxes
  • Packing peanuts
  • Plastic utensils
  • Plastic straws and stirrers
  • Cake mix liners and other dry powder mix liners
  • Plastic toothpaste tubes
  • Condiment packets
  • All other non-recycled plastic bags

Do not place these items in Hefty® EnergyBag™ orange bag:

  • Aluminum & steel cans
  • Water & soda bottles
  • Paper & cardboard
  • Glass
  • Food & other packaging contents
  • Liquids of any kind
  • Medical plastic products
  • Hazardous waste
  • Hoses, tubes or rope

This program is so EASY! Follow these simple steps:

  • Purchase your orange bags at your local Hy-Vee or at HeftyEnergyBags.com
  • Start filling up your orange bags at home with the items listed above
  • Once your bag is full, tie up and place the bag with your other recyclables on your curb

Using these orange bags really opened up my eyes to how many things we were throwing in our trash. Within a few days of having the bags in our home, I found myself filling my purse with wrappers when we weren’t home, just so I could take them and place them in our orange bags instead of throwing them in a public trash can.

Hefty® EnergyBag™ Program inspired us to do more

As a result, it has helped our entire family think twice about how we are taking care of the earth. Honestly, we are inspired to take more steps in caring for our environment. In addition to these bags, we bring our own reusable totes to the grocery store, started a seed garden in egg cartons, began taking our glass to a drop-off location, and saved left overs. We are even talking about starting a compost bin this summer. Overall, it has been a lifestyle change for our whole family and has lead to conversations discussing the impact we can have on our planet.

I would love to hear more about how your family is becoming more environmentally friendly. Let us know!
