I will be the first to tell you how much I LOVE fall. I love everything about fall, from football to pumpkin flavored everything. Nebraska is perfect in the fall! We have a lot of options for Apple Orchards to pick our own apples to make delicious apple recipes. My kiddos also love helping me make fall treats and my apple cobbler is one of their favorites!
Apple Cobbler with Streusel
Cobbler Base
- 8-10 apples, peeled and sliced
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 3/4 cup of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of cinnamon
- Dash of Nutmeg
Mix all of the ingredients together and put into a 9×13 greased pan. Pop the apples in the oven at 350 for about 15 minutes – keep an eye on them as ovens vary.
Once they are done, I pull them out and make the cobbler part.
Cobbler Part
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 cup milk
- dash of salt
Mix together flour, baking powder, sugar, melted butter, milk and a dash of salt. I stir it up (yes it will be a bit clumpy) and then pour over the apples.
Topping
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- cinnamon
My favorite part is the topping – I mixed together melted butter, oatmeal, brown sugar and a generous helping of cinnamon. Mix it all together and pour on top of the cobbler batter. I then pop it back in the oven for 35-40 minutes – keep an eye to make sure the top does not burn.
My kiddos love to have it served warm with some vanilla ice cream – Enjoy!
