Omaha Moms Blog:: Introducing Wendy

Omaha

We relocated from Lincoln to Omaha in 2008 due to a career change for my husband. I had previously lived in Omaha for a few months immediately after graduation from college. Shortly after our first son was born, we moved to Treynor, Iowa where my husband grew up, and we are blocks from the grandparents!

I love that Omaha has so much to offer. We love taking trips to the zoo and children’s museum and visiting so many of the wonderful splash pads around town. There are so many fun and family-friendly opportunities to expose our children to right here in Omaha. The area has numerous support organizations and these really help moms connect with each other. We find this true especially as parents of a special needs child. Also, we have found the medical community to be amazing! We feel very fortunate to have been able to build a wonderful support team for our child.

I am a mom to three wonderful children. Dexter is nine and will be in 4th grade next year. It’s amazing how time flies so fast! He was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis Complex and epilepsy at six months of age and then autism at four years old. He has taught us more about life than we could have ever imagined. Phoebe will turn five in July. She was a two month early preemie and is doing one more year of preschool. She came into this world like a spitfire and hasn’t stopped; she is definitely is keeping us on our toes! BrexLee is two and has really taught us the impact of being able to learn from other people, for her specifically, her siblings!

Motherhood is amazing and brings so much joy and gratitude into my world. I do believe that having our first born child have special needs so early on in his life has helped us have some very unique perspectives on not only parenting but life in general. There are times when it feels like I don’t know if I’m coming or going or which appointment is when but I love every minute of it! The uniqueness of each of our children makes it so fun and sometimes challenging to be a parent. I love seeing how they grow and develop into their own individuals. The bond the three of them have is very special and unconditional. We are grateful for each situation our children bring into our lives.

I am honored and so excited to be a part of the Omaha Moms Blog! I love to connect with other moms and especially moms with special needs children. I believe it’s important that as moms we are advocates for our children. By connecting with other moms, we can hear from others who get some of what we go through on a daily basis. We can never have too much of this. My hope by sharing experiences through my blogs is to help further the acceptance of all children with inclusion because at the end of the day, each child is amazing in their own way.
