Omaha
The saying goes, “Once you get Offutt you don’t get off it!” I rolled into Bellevue, Nebraska as a military brat over 30 years ago and have been a military wife since 2009. It’s been a joy to see how Omaha has flourished and expanded throughout the years. When friends and family visit from out of town, I beam at the opportunity to give tours that showcase our city’s delectable delights and chic shops at the Old Market and beyond. Fontenelle Forest is just a stone’s throw away from my backyard and I can’t resist the opportunity to reveal the wonders and pleasures of the outdoors. I’m grateful to be nestled nearby Offutt, and I’m in no rush to wander away.
Moms
Every day I wake up to one of the most laughable journeys of a mom: parenting a toddler and a teenager simultaneously. Did I mention there are two kiddos in between? My husband and I can’t help but smile when we look around the table each night and see our four gifts from God. We’re blessed with a brilliant, striking, soon-to-be junior in high school, two curious and courageous elementary students, and one vibrant and talkative girl whose 2’s weren’t so terrible. As a parent of two children with special needs, I’m learning the importance of patience and grace. Daily, I learn to not only offer these gems to my children, but to also extend them to myself as I navigate this thing called parenting. Being a parent of an autistic child ushers me into a new wave of thinking, feeling, and experiencing the world. I’m grateful for this invitation and I can only imagine what lies ahead as we trek along this path. It’s an honor to be a mom to such a diverse and darling little tribe.
Blog
The blog life is a new exploit for me, but cheerleading is something I did—dare I say—decades ago and I feel they’re in the same lane. Blogging with Omaha Mom’s Blog will allow me to root for other moms, but especially those moms of children with special needs. I certainly don’t have all the answers, but I am constantly learning about resources and organizations that support families like mine. I love to cheer on fellow mothers and offer them encouragement and advice as provision and resources pour in for me. This will be my joy as a new blogger on Omaha Mom’s Blog.
