Omaha Moms Blog :: Introducing Erica

Omaha

I have lived in Omaha off and on since 1993. There are many wonderful things about Omaha, and it has grown so much throughout the years that I have been back (and forth). I affectionately refer to Omaha as the black hole of the United States; every time you try to leave, it sucks you back. Omaha is affordable, family oriented, and friendly. You can meet someone new every day if you wish. That is what makes Omaha such a wonderful place to be a mom. With the many parks, fun family events, and overall atmosphere, you can be as busy or relaxed as you like.

Moms

I am mother to a four year old daughter, Olivia; and a 19 month old son, Isaiah. Motherhood has been good to me. It allows me to enjoy life through a child’s eyes. Many times, as adults, we get sucked into the hustle and bustle of daily life and forget the magic of jumping in a pile of leaves, or examining a fuzzy caterpillar on the sidewalk. Being a mom has given me a reason to slow down and enjoy every precious moment of life. Of course, the challenge with that is making sure that the unending lists of “chores” or responsibilities are met. Between grocery shopping, my new obsession with organization (thanks to Isaiah), cleaning, lunches, laundry, etc., it seems that I’m never “done” with my list. Usually, it’s the laundry that’s left for last. What is it about laundry that is so unnerving? Maybe it’s the fact that it’s never really DONE.

Blog

I’m super excited to be a contributor for Omaha Moms Blog because I can connect with other moms through my writing. Because of my husband’s work schedule, I am often doing the mom thing at home while he’s out of town, which leads to an interesting perspective. Additionally, I have flown and road tripped with my two littles more than the average bear, if you will. I have some real expertise on traveling efficiently with two young kids in tow, especially internationally. Hopefully, my down to earth style will help someone else in their adventures. I am the friend who will tell it like it is. But, as one of my friends always says, I won’t come out and tell you those jeans make you look fat; I’ll just suggest a different outfit for you to wear.

Erica
Erica is an Omaha transplant from Northern California and has lived in Omaha off and on since 1993. She is mom to two wonderful children who fill her with love and joy. Because her husband’s career requires him being gone for long stretches of time, she has learned to streamline being a career mama while flying solo for months at a time. Her middle school reading students add some excitement to her days, and her kids keep the humor going strong into the evenings. Erica also manages to have a Mary Kay business in her "free time". She has many tips for traveling with small children as well, since she travels internationally with the kiddos at least once a year. She enjoys reading, and belongs to the best book club ever; being active; and sharing an occasional cup of coffee or wine with friends. You'll find her out and about on weekends and evenings embracing every drop of motherhood.
