Momsomnia (def): That time in the middle of the night when a mom wakes up and her brain all of a sudden decides it’s time to go into overload and think of any and every single thing she couldn’t get to or think about during her day chasing children.

I’ve been suffering lately from the worst momsomnia; I always keep my phone by my bed so I can write things down and hopefully shut my brain off (probably exactly what NOT to do considering the light isn’t great). But, since that hasn’t been working anyway, I decided to write down the jist of every thought so that I could give my husband a glance at the craziness that is a mom’s brain at 3am. Welcome to my thoughts. . . . .

*I wonder if we should get a grey or white crib for baby boy? [cue thinking about everything else that needs to be in the room, what we have and don’t have, and what colors those pieces of furniture are]. I need to start a new Pinterest board.

*Speaking of Pinterest that recipe for Peanut Butter Thai Chicken was not great-not happening again. That’s probably also why my heartburn is worse tonight.

*Is that someone crying? Or just making noises? I wonder if one of them is getting an ear infection (rationalizing thoughts that make me come to the conclusion that no, it’s just a fluke and nighttime noises, stop worrying).

*I’m so tired!

*Do I have to pee again? That was less than 20 minutes ago I went last time-is this baby literally on top of my bladder or what?

*I forgot to pray for _________. (Say prayer)

*Ok, time to get serious about getting back to sleep, deep breaths (concentrate on breathing for 10 minutes before thinking about the fact that thinking about breathing isn’t working).

*We’re going to go to storytime tomorrow; if we leave 10 minutes early I can get a coffee treat. Wait, (we’re in the 2-1 nap transition) I don’t want them to fall asleep, no extra time in the car, straight there and straight home.

*If I get to sleep now I could still get another 2.5 hours of sleep.

*I need to pull my Halloween rug from storage.

*I’m going to blog about this; hopefully I’m not the only crazy person this happens to. I’m probably the only person crazy enough to write it down and put it out there though.

*I need to remember to call the photographer about family photos in October or November. Jeepers, I’m thinking about more photos and I haven’t even printed their 6 month or 1 year photos. Do I even print those now that we’re so close to having new ones? I surely need to order some canvases and add to our wall. Or maybe the basement?

*Oh man, the basement (we’re in the process of finishing it ourselves). Are we really going to have that done before this little boy gets here? When will we find time to finish his room and the basement both? I love decorating-so much of it to come.

*Should I just shower now?  I hope they sleep until atleast 6:15am.

Somewhere after all of that I end up drifting off to sleep, but not without losing at least an hour of sleep in the land of momsomnia!

Anyone have any tricks that work to cure it?

    You are definitely not alone! I remember those nights well. And, if I am completely honest, I still have them occasionally.
    It’s a bit like a “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” type of situation, isn’t it?
