I was raised in Fremont– so Omaha was always the fun place we visited on the weekends as a family. I ventured to Colorado to pursue my degree in journalism from the University of Denver. After graduating, I decided to stick around the Denver area since I met this great guy. That guy became my husband in 2001 – and I eventually talked him into moving to Omaha with our young family in 2007. We now live in Bennington, and we absolutely love raising our family here.
After living away from “home” for so many years, I realized how much I love the Omaha community. The cost of living is so affordable here, and we have some of the best school districts for our children.
We are so lucky to have a small-town feel, with the amenities of a booming city. Our family enjoys outings to the Henry Doorly Zoo, Children’s Museum, as well as the variety of parks and trails that Omaha offers. We also enjoy participating in local running and triathlon events as well!
I am blessed to be the Mom of four awesome boys and couldn’t imagine life any other way. I often joke that I live in a frat house! My oldest son is 14 and enjoys wrestling and BMX racing. He starts high school (gulp!) later this year. My middle son is 12 and loves playing baseball and playing trumpet in the school band. He’s just like his mom – he enjoys running and doing triathlons (he has beat me in two running races). Our younger son is 6 and would play soccer and baseball all day if you let him. He is an eager Cub Scout, and likes figuring out how he can be just like his big brothers. Our youngest son was born in the autumn of 2017, and perfectly completes our family. It’s been a true blessing to go through the baby phase one last time (even at 40!). We’re excited to see how his own little personality grows as he gets older.
My degree is in journalism, and I have dabbled in freelance writing over the past several years. I’m excited to use my passion for writing to share and connect with other Omaha moms as we navigate this journey through motherhood together.
I know that each mom has her own parenting style with her kids. Unfortunately, we have so many people out there trying to tell us what we’re doing wrong. We’re all doing our best, but it’s easy to feel knocked down when parenting gets hard. It’s our job as a village of moms to support and encourage each other along the way.
I started my own blog MomCanTri.com a few years ago to share how I balance life as a mom, wife, and triathlete. Doing triathlons and running has given me a sense of identity and accomplishment, without losing my focus as a devoted mom. I hope my experiences can encourage other moms, and help them to find the balance in their own lives as they seek their adventures and passions.
