Hello Omaha, friends of our dear city and followers!
This is my first official blog, and I am beyond excited to share my thoughts with the community! Thanks for clicking, and bear with me; I’m literally new here.
Omaha
In Millard, West Omaha, born and raised, on the playground is where I spent most of my days…
But seriously. I was born and raised in Omaha; I am a Cornhusker through and through. As with many natives, I often wonder, especially during a Midwest winter, “Why the heck did my parent’s decide to live here?”
I grew up in Millard, was homeschooled, and married young. I loved to travel, and always knew that I didn’t want to live my entire life without experiencing something different. And so, as newlyweds, my husband and I decided to embark on a new adventure together.
The ocean was calling this Nebraska girl, and I was ready to answer. Charleston, South Carolina is where we hung our hats, and it was absolutely lovely! Strolling through downtown, or one of the beach-side communities, bicycling the cobblestone streets, combing the beach and wading in the surf, golfing, or dining at one of the famed establishments is how I preferred to spend my days off. In many ways, it was all I had ever wanted. But it wasn’t. The cost of living was higher, and struggling financially was already a major contention point of our marriage, combine that with zero degrees, wedding debt, and then some, we were off to a shaky start to say the least.
Congratulations: you’re pregnant! Now what!?
Shortly after a weekend trip to Hilton Head (that was gifted to us) we found out that we were expecting our first child; we were ecstatic! We knew, however, with the struggles we were facing, we would need to be close to family, and support if we were going to get through this. Although I realized that strictly financially speaking the move was a mistake, it was an experience never to be taken for granted. It came with some lifelong friends I will never forget.
Soon enough, we were back home in Nebraska, living in Lincoln, and a lot of life unfolded from there. Insert life, jobs, nursing school, move to Omaha, career change, two kids, living in my parent’s basement, life was hard for a little while, but ya know what? I survived! We Survived!
There was a lot of learning to cope, learning to live this new life, while trying to find out who I was again, and I was so glad to be able to do that here! I don’t know if it was the family, friends, the grace of God, the great people that I was surrounded with, this city, the affordable cost of living here, or the Hy-Vee grocery store that I had missed so terribly, or some magical formula of all of the above, but I know that I am so #blessed to be exactly where I am, in this great community of people today!
Mom
As seen above, I’ve been through a little bit of life. I’m so grateful to be the mom to two crazy, obnoxious, whiny, life-sucking, fantastic, wonderful, smart, adventurous, funny, sticky little boys! They made me my favorite thing to be: their mom! They were my sanity, and my constant when I was going through the trenches of a divorce, and they were my grounding wires throughout the process!
Sebastian is 6 and heading into first grade in the fall. He loves to run around, play soccer and baseball, and has energy to last for days!
Noah is my little 4 year-old snuggle bug, and he loves his mom so much. He’s been through some major health struggles, and has been so resilient and such a champ through it all. He is planning on beginning preschool and soccer in the fall.
I am now a single, mom. I work full time, part time, and some time! I am attending Metro Community College for another go-round, and plan on a spring graduation with an Associates degrees in Business Management.
I have been a mother to a child that was never to be. I saw my youngest bottom out and almost die in a hospital bed in front of me, while I watched helplessly and doctors did their finest work. I stayed by his bedside for weeks in the ICU. I have attended every soccer game so far that I could, and try to make it for a school event or two when I can get away from the grind. I’m a mom. It’s what we do.
I will be the first to admit imperfection, but I guess in retrospect I am somewhat of an expert, as we have survived all of our days, so far!
Blog
So, why a blog? Why not?
I feel that I can bring a different and unique perspective based on the life that I have lived and the lessons that I’ve learned. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, and as an aspiring writer, why not begin with the one I know best: my own?!
I am currently working on a line of children’s books, among a few other projects, and thought this would be a great way to reach my target audience, and get the feedback and experience that I need to make some amazing stories!
Thanks for stopping by, this is gonna be fun!
