A Little Romp n’ Roll!

Fun Classes

This last week my two-year-old and I had the pleasure of attending a few classes at Romp n’ Roll. What’s Romp n’ Roll? It’s a new kids gym on 178th and Harrison where kids five years and younger go to “play, learn, and make friends.” With a full schedule of classes and open gym time, you’re sure to find something that meets your toddler’s specific needs. Certain classes are parent-inclusive or parent-optional giving your child the chance to gain independence in a safe and caring environment while developing the skills they need to be the best version of themselves. How they accomplish this is through play-based activities that build physical and cognitive skills, provide socialization with other children, and give children and parents positive shared experiences. Regardless if you attend the class with your child or not, the teachers are amazing! They get on your child’s level and make sure to work with each one. I could tell my daughter–whose usually not very welcoming to strangers–felt safe and interacted with the instructors like they were old friends.

Toddler Fun

While the drive to the gym was a trek for my family who lives in Benson, we were met with cheery employees and a brightly colored studio and gym, which made the long drive worth it. My kiddo was absolutely over the moon to see a larger than life cut-out of Romp n’ Roll’s mascot-“Rompy” as well as being able to interact with the character in each one of the classes she attended.  Our first class was “Art Explorers” for 2-3 year olds. The children were called into the classroom and then met together for carpet time. This consisted of an introduction of this week’s projects and theme: LEGO’s, songs, and a LEGO story from the story-bag. The students painted LEGO heads, and played with materials from their tactile bin. I asked a few of the parents what they liked best about Romp n’ Roll, and one mother in the class laughed and told me that it’s hard to get her 2-year-old to leave because she loves it so much!  It was hard for me to get my kiddo out the door too!

Princess vs. Pirate

The second class we attended was between a Princess theme or a Pirate theme. My daughter picked the Pirate class-go figure. Once again there was carpet time with songs, a pirate story, and an introduction to the project. Each child created a lovely pirate ship sunset using mixed media, paints, pipes with water, markers, and construction paper under the instruction of a happy teacher. Class ended with a few minutes in the gym much to the children’s delight. One father told me that his son asks every night, “Is it a Romp n’ Roll night?” Later, within the week, I heard the same phrase coming from my daughter’s mouth as well!

Gym Time is the Best Time

The gym, in my opinion, is what really makes Romp n’ Roll shine. The kiddos can’t wait to swing from the monkey bars, run the obstacle course, climb the rock wall, or jump on the trampoline. And I bet a few parents wished they could! My daughter had so much fun during gym time. Rompy’s Club Membership is the best value at $80 per month with unlimited classes, gym visits, and discount specials on birthday parties, events, and retail. The Classic Membership is $65 which includes five classes per month, free unlimited open gym, and special discounts on birthday parties, retail, and events. Kassandra
Born and raised in Omaha, Kassandra has a heart for her city and loves that she can call it home. After ten years battling infertility, she and her husband of 14 years, Nicholas, have a beautiful feisty little firecracker named Eloise (2015). Kassandra formerly taught preschool for 15 years and decided to leave teaching in a school setting to help her friend start up "The Wonder Nook" (a space of creativity and wonderment for all ages) When time allows it, you will more than likely find Kassandra somewhere writing, dreaming, doing.
