Omaha Moms Blog :: Introducing Jamie

Omaha

I moved to Omaha in May 2014.  I’m originally from Aurora, CO. I entered the “great state” to attend Hastings College where I also competed on the Track and Field team. After graduation I moved to Lincoln to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and completed my Ph.D. in Economics. My husband and I got married while I was in grad school and living in Lincoln.  For 2 years he commuted from Lincoln to Omaha. In my last year of grad school we flipped. We moved to Omaha and I started to commute to Lincoln. I love Omaha and am so proud to call it home. The humidity is terrible for my curly hair but the city is a secret gem that makes it worth it. Colin and I love to bike and hope to see Omaha grow as a better biking community as new trails are added. Omaha has wonderful restaurants with delicious steak, the breweries popping up around town give us new local beers to try, and did you hear that our zoo is the best in the world?!

Mom

I am a newbie mom. My sweet daughter Vella was born in October 2016. While she’s our first child I am looking forward to having more Wagners running around our house. I love watching Vella learn and grow. She’s in her first year so each day there is something so new and fun that she is exploring. I love that for a little while I’m the funniest person she knows.  With the joys of motherhood come some of the strains. My biggest strain is balancing the roles of Jamie, Mom, and Dr. Wagner. Building a network of mamas like we are doing with Omaha Moms Blog will hopefully help me through this journey as much as I hope it helps you! We need a community of all kinds of mamas—working, SAHM, long-distance, step, etc.—to help and hear their words of wisdom.

Blog

I’m so excited to be a part of Omaha Moms Blog. I hope to grow my network and meet some awesome women along this journey. My main goal as a contributor is to help you communicate and learn a bit more about personal finance. As part of my job I teach teachers but I want to reach out to Moms who are the heart of families and help them get their kids on the right financial path. I have worked with teachers across the nation and have been a part of National organizations that help improve our kids’ personal finance knowledge and I hope to be able to reach out more in my community. I am not a financial planner and do not give financial advice but I do help people/students/kids think about their financial choices which helps set them on a path towards success.

Jamie
Hi I’m Jamie. I’m originally from Aurora, CO. I moved to Nebraska to attend Hastings College to where I ran into my husband while running on the Track Team. I have my Ph.D in Economics and work at the University of Nebraska at Omaha as an Assistant Professor of Economics and Director of the Center for Economic Education. As a professor I teach economics to college students and research economic education and financial literacy education. As the Director of the Center for Economic Education I get to work with the Omaha and surrounding area K-12 teachers and teach them how to teach economics and personal finance in a fun and engaging way. Economics has a bad rep and I’m here to change that! We have two kids--my daughter Vella is 3 1/2 and my son Brook is 9 months old! I have a fur baby puggle named Rodgers (the Wagners are cheeseheads). We are a family that loves the outdoors and being active!
