Omaha Moms Blog:: Introducing Blair

Omaha

Hi! I’m Blair and I have lived in Omaha my entire life. Technically, I grew up in La Vista and attended Papillion-La Vista schools. My grandma still lives in one of the very first houses ever built in La Vista, in fact. After high school, I attended Creighton University, and I can’t say enough great things about my experience there. I stayed in Omaha after college because of the community feel—that’s my favorite part of living here. There’s only a few degrees of separation (if that) between people.We are constantly running into people we know from various activities—so much so that I should probably start wearing makeup to Target. Not only that, but this is a great place for to experience family activities galore. We certainly don’t have time to be bored around here!

Moms

I have a son who is about to enter his kindergarten year in a Montessori classroom. He’s incredibly insightful and mature for his age. He recently started writing and illustrating his own short stories and my heart just bursts every time he reads them to me. I also have a daughter who is two years old and who somehow has crazy curly hair (tips welcome).  Her favorite things to do include feeding her dolls and helping me put my makeup on, which she is actually very good at. These two don’t look or act anything alike but we love them just the same!

I most love watching my kids learn new things. I’m most proud of when they’re kind to each other and others. They are so adaptable and it’s something I really want to encourage in them as they get older. I could stand to be more that way! We have some unofficial family rules that are hung up in my son’s room: “Be silly, be honest, be kind.” It’s a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, and when I notice their behavior falls into any of those categories, I always make it a point to acknowledge it.

I still get frustrated, though. I find now that I’m (finally) entering a phase where I’m getting more consecutive hours of sleep and my kids are a bit more self-sufficient, that I become most frustrated when I am in rush or when I have expectations for a situation that I haven’t verbalized. Patience is not my strong suit. They help teach me how to have more every day, but boy is it hard in the mornings and at bedtime, amiright?!

I have a passion for storytelling. I write every day in some form, whether it’s copywriting at work for public consumption or just for myself, I love it. And I think there’s so much power in swapping stories—REAL stories and experiences—with each other. It helps parents not to feel so alone, but I also hope to provide some entertainment (we all deserve a break in the day to enjoy ourselves!) in addition to providing some valuable and practical tips for your families.

Blair Bonczynski is a wife to one, mom to two. Born and raised in the Metro area, she finds great joy in playing intramural sports, listening to a good audio book, figuring out ways to save the environment, and indulging in a craft beer every now and then. She spends her days working as the marketing and communications coordinator for the Archdiocese of Omaha Catholic Schools Office, and she spends her nights playing with her kids and picking up toys at home. She is constantly discovering the joy in the little things.
