Beauty Essentials for a Busy Mom

I am a lady who likes to feel pretty. My husband once described me as a “girly-girl” when we were first dating. I took no offense. In high school, my eyeliner and I had a very close relationship. (Nearly an obsession).

In my pre-children days, my hair was freshly highlighted every 6 weeks and I never left the house without my “face-on”. I took comfort in the fact that only a handful of my closest friends and family had ever seen me without makeup.

Then came motherhood.

I spent most of my maternity leave with my first born just grateful for the days I was able to shower. And makeup? Yeah- that took a total backseat. My most common look became a ratty bun, yesterday’s yoga pants and a burp cloth on my shoulder.

Eventually I had to face the public again. I realized my morning routine needed to be a bit faster now that there was more than just myself to get ready, but it also needed to make me feel put together. I have found a few beauty products that have made me feel more human again.

Mascara

If I had to survive on one beauty product alone, mascara would be my pick hands down. I have been on the hunt for as long as I can remember to find the BEST mascara. Does it exist? Is it really out there? I’m still not completely convinced, but this one is pretty close to ideal. It is L’Oreal Lash Paradise. I prefer the waterproof version (fun fact- waterproof mascara dries faster, therefore holding the curl of your lashes better than regular mascara). However, I have tried the original and love it just the same. And how great is it that it’s not super pricey?!

Dry Shampoo

The person that created dry shampoo HAD to be a mother. It is AMAZING! If you haven’t given it a try, go out and buy a bottle right now and thank me later. It is a total game changer. Not only does it save you mass amounts of time in the morning, it also refreshes your hair and can be used as a root lifter.

I have tried a few professional brands, and a few drugstore brands, but by far my favorite has been Batiste. They have a wide variety of options so head over to their website to take a quiz to find the perfect one for you.

Spray tan

Holla to all my pale skinned ladies! I am learning to embrace my natural skin color, but sometime I need a little boost of color to feel complete for a night out or a special event. Since taking care of your skin has become the new cool, I replaced the sun with a bottle of spray tan. I have two favorites for this category.

My fave target run pick-up is Neutrogena Micro-Mist airbrush sunless tan. It gives a nice even tan and smells good. The downside is it takes a few hours (at least) to show up.

Another great one is Fake Bake Flawless.  Bonus- It comes with a mitt to help evenly disperse the color and no stained palms! It is the pricier of the two spray tans, but I have found the best price on amazon

And there you have it, my 3 beauty go-to’s! I hope you found something you like or something new to try. I would love for you to share with me your favorite products for busy moms. (And if anyone has a concealer recommendation, I am looking for one that hides the fact I haven’t slept since 2011.)
